Cleaning your air conditioners coils, Is it important?

Four Reasons why cleaning both your evaporator coil & condenser coil is a MUST!

Since I have been discussing all the different types of phone calls our service department receives, coil cleanings is on the top of the list. Coils are a key component of any air conditioning system. When your coils are maintained in good condition, then your HVAC  system will run at peak efficiency. However, if your coils are in poor condition and are dirty, they can and will cause many problems.

1. Dirty Coils will increase operating costs.

When a coil becomes filthy it cannot provide the designed heat transfer. When the designed or adequate heat transfer is not provided it then causes higher discharge pressure. The higher the discharge pressure, the more electricity the unit needs. This then results in increased utility costs. Another very popular air conditioning repair phone call our company’s service department receives is the “My air conditioner is freezing up” or the “My air conditioner is a block of ice, help!” phone call. I put together a post with the five most popular reasons   why an air conditioning unit would freeze up. Once again I am going to emphasize that most people don’t realize that 80% of the time, most issues can have either been prevented or resolved through performing routine preventive maintenance on the HVAC unit. Below you will read the top five most common reasons why your air conditioning unit would freeze.

First, I would look at both the condensing unit, and the air handler. The condensing unit (outdoor unit) and the air handler (indoor unit) should both be running the same time.
