As an HVAC engineer in New York, your duties can include the installation, design, repair and maintenance of any cooling and heating system for many commercial and residential buildings.
How do I start?
For an entry-level HVAC position, you will usually require a Bachelor’s Degree in HVAC Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning can also provide certification. HVAC engineering students usually study application and theory, physics, advanced math, system design and analysis, computer aided design and mechanical engineering.
In order to make sure that HVAC systems meet the requirements of the customer, you will usually be required to prove strong problem solving skills during an interview process. In addition to this, you will also need solid communication skills, computer skills, good attention to detail and CAD software training.
How’s the future looking?
As large numbers of HVAC engineers are reaching the age of retirement, there is a growing demand for up and coming new employees, and entry level annual salaries can range from $40,000 to $60,000.
