Giving Everyone A Fair Chance!

In New York and the USA, there are many aspects that influence where air conditioning units appear – climate, ownership influence and structural characteristics are just a few – but access to air conditioning units by households with a low income is noticeably lower than other households.
Currently, nearly 45% of all households living below the poverty line do not have any AC equipment installed at all! On the other end of the scale, 75% of households with annual incomes in excess of $100,000 use air conditioning systems. For people living in NYC and Manhattan, air conditioning is becoming more of a necessity than a luxury as people try to adapt to the seasonal temperatures. In addition to this, air conditioning can save money on bills; therefore, less wealthy people without it may actually end up spending more on other household fees!
There are large opportunities to retrofit some homes with modern, more cost efficient air conditioning equipment that would decrease annual cooling bills. Many homes that were built in the 1980s, for example, have AC equipment more than two decades old!
